Amanda Kim - CEO at H.O.P.art
Graduating from the Rhode Island School of Design (RISD) in architecture, Amanda Kim has a rich career spanning 13 years as a designer and project manager in New York. She now embraces her dual roles as a mother and CEO at H.O.P.art, adding another dimension to her exciting journey. Recently, she organized the H.O.P.up lifestyle design pop-up event.
Alice Park - E-commerce Merchant Coordinator at WIL Corporation
Alice Park, a graduate in Fashion Business Management from FIT, has built her career with renowned fashion companies including Jill Stuart. Currently, she coordinates e-commerce for nan-seo.com and manages merchandising at H.O.P.art.
During our interview at their latest event, these dynamic women shared insights about their endeavors.
Amanda shared insights on H.O.P.up, which took place over three days in November. "H.O.P Up intended to connect designers and consumers in a unique shopping experience," she explained, emphasizing the personal interactions and understanding of brand narratives fostered by the event.
Amanda detailed her transition from a stable career to establishing H.O.P.art, motivated by the desire to introduce meaningful lifestyle products to a wider audience. Her previous experiences, both in corporate and freelance architectural design, paved the way for this venture.
Suzy Kim, another notable participant, shared her story as an artist contributing to H.O.P.up. She highlighted the alignment between her work in public art and the brand's ethos, fostering a collaborative opportunity with H.O.P.art.
Similarly, Seohee Koh, with an impressive tenure at renowned jewelry brands like Kenneth Cole and Tiffany, reflected on her journey to founding S/H Koh. Her contributions to top-tier luxury brands contrasted with her current pursuit of accessible design prompted by personal purpose and social responsibility.
Nan Seo, founder of a cashmere fashion brand, discussed her motivations originating from mission trips to Mongolia, leading to the creation of a brand aiding local communities through thoughtful design.
Alice described the demanding yet thrilling life of a fashion merchandiser in New York. Her varied role at Nan Seo involves collaborations with bloggers and managing social media for the startup brand.
Despite successful careers, Amanda and Seohee expressed the challenges and rewards of their entrepreneurial pursuits, emphasizing the personal fulfillment and creative autonomy that entrepreneurship offers.
Aspiring designers are encouraged to maintain a clear vision, patience, and adaptability, as Nan Seo shared, highlighting the unpredictable yet rewarding nature of running a brand.
Each entrepreneur reflected on New York's dynamic environment as a catalyst for their ventures, offering a blend of inspiration and unique challenges. For many, the city remains a place of dreams and ambition, filled with opportunities and obstacles.
