For many working mothers, a vacation can feel like an extension of their work. While it offers a brief escape from the mental stress of dealing with superiors, colleagues, and tight deadlines, it simultaneously enters the realm of physical labor known as childcare. Despite this, I decided to embrace this labor and embark on a spontaneous trip to Miami Beach, hoping to refresh my mind and introduce my child, Poki, to new experiences.
Florida, with its warm, comforting weather and seemingly pristine blue waves, welcomed us with open arms. However, like many children, Poki initially found the new faces and places intimidating. He clung to me to avoid sand contact and held tightly to his father in the swimming pool. Yet, nature's silent friendliness soon calmed him, and he quickly made friends with the sand and water, expressing reluctance to leave as evening approached. Devoid of his regularly armed phone, Poki discovered new joy, repeatedly requesting "again, again, again" with each encounter with Pororo and ice cream.
Despite experiencing physical discomforts like a sore back and aching shoulders, the trip offered me a chance to reclaim my neglected role as a 'mother,' soothing the guilt accumulated from missing precious moments due to work obligations.
The essence of any journey lies not in the destination but in the company we keep. A companion can transform a paradise into a prison or turn a desert into an oasis. Though I have visited Florida multiple times, this trip became the most memorable due to Poki's company, enveloping my journey in warmth and sweetness. This addictive sweetness ensures that my future precious vacations will be 'dedicated' to Poki.
