The September issue of Mom & I features musical actress Lim Kyu-jin on its cover, capturing the subtle essence of autumn. Born in Korea and completing high school there, she first set foot in New York at the age of twenty. Just three years after graduating from college, she made her Broadway debut. While there have been Korean-American musical actors born or raised in the U.S., Lim Kyu-jin is the first 'native' Korean to consistently perform as a Broadway musical actress. Even after marrying a Korean-American, she has retained her Korean nationality, embodying her identity deeply as a 'Korean.'
She made a stunning entrance into the musical world by taking on the role of Princess Tuptim in the major Broadway production "The King and I," surprising many in the industry. However, Lim Kyu-jin also cherishes her time connecting with audiences outside of Broadway. Singing on an outdoor stage bathed in the soft evening light of a setting sun, she presents a picture of beauty as a current Broadway musical actress.
Perhaps due to her battles with language, visa issues, loneliness, and numerous challenges, her singing and acting are particularly noted for their authenticity. Only those who have faced hardship can truly understand the struggles and pain of others. Lim Kyu-jin plans to reach out to those in need not just through her songs, but by sharing more of what she has to offer. Her communication, which began through a YouTube channel called 'Q Bang TV,' is just a small step.
In the photos, one can almost feel the warm breeze and comforting emotions she brings. Now, it’s time to go meet her in the world.
