Introduction

As Mam and I prepares for its 20th anniversary since its inception in 2020, a series of commemorative events are planned. Among these is a special interview series with individuals who have been intricately connected with Mam and I over the past 19 years. The first of such interviews is with Taehee Sa, CEO of the publishing house ‘Special Library,’ at Mecenatpolis in Hapjeong-dong, Seoul. Despite his hectic schedule, CEO Sa, who has dedicated nearly 30 years to the publishing industry, shared his profound and longstanding relationship with Mam and I.

Exclusive Interview

Greetings and Introduction

Taehee Sa:
Hello. I'm Taehee Sa, deeply connected with Mam and I. Currently, I run a publishing company called ‘Special Library’ in Korea. Hearing about Mam and I's 20th anniversary fills me with nostalgia and joy.

Connection with Mam and I

Taehee Sa:
As mentioned, my connection with Mam and I is deep and longstanding. I joined in its second issue and worked as an editor until 2010. This place means a lot to me due to the memories and impact it has had on my career and personal growth.

About ‘Special Library’

Taehee Sa:
‘Special Library’ was named to encourage everyone—from publishers to writers to readers—to create their own unique library. After leaving Mam and I in 2010, I joined another publishing house before launching ‘Special Library’ two years ago. We strive to publish quality literature consistently.

Thoughts on Mam and I’s Journey

Taehee Sa:
I'm thrilled to have contributed to shaping Mam and I. Its ability to maintain its course reflects the unwavering dedication of the founders and the trust it has built with its readers.

Early Days in the Korean Community

Taehee Sa:
Initially launched as a parenting magazine, Mam and I soon shifted to its current format focusing on people. The magazine quickly gained popularity due to its unique and educational content and interactive community events.

Memorable Episodes

Taehee Sa:
The enduring event, 'I Want to Show Off My Child,' remains a cherished memory. Many participated, and I fondly remember the children who are now all grown up.

The Future of Print Publications

Taehee Sa:
Despite the rise of e-books, the demand for print remains strong due to its unique appeal and nostalgia. I believe in integrating print and digital formats to complement each other and reach wider audiences.

Focus for Mam and I Moving Forward

Taehee Sa:
Mam and I has played a significant role within the Korean community through its continuity, lending emotional strength and connectivity. It should continue addressing and communicating emerging community needs.

Expectations for Mam and I’s Future

Taehee Sa:
Beyond profitability, Mam and I's accomplishments are meaningful. It is my sincere hope that it continues growing for decades to come, with increased support from the community.

Final Thoughts

Taehee Sa:
While my work at ‘Special Library’ is humble, we have a variety of genres targeting both adults and youth. I wish to facilitate literary discussions across borders, particularly in the U.S., with plans for author-invited book concerts.

Mam and I and ‘Special Library’ can flourish together with mutual cooperation. The support of readers who value this relationship is crucial. Congratulations once again to Mam and I on its 20th anniversary.
